A Quasar Language Pack refers to the internationalization of Quasar's own components, some of which have labels.

### Vue Injection

Accessible via `$q.lang` (e.g., `this.$q.lang` in Options API or `useQuasar().lang` in Composition API).

### quasar.config.js Options

Configuration key: `framework.config.lang` (object)

- `noHtmlAttrs` (boolean, optional)
  Whether to disable 'dir' and 'lang' HTML attributes getting added to the '<html>' tag. The 'dir' attribute is crucial when using RTL support. Disable this only if you need to handle these yourself for some reason.

## Configuration

Add to `quasar.config.js`:

> It should be noted that what is described below is the internationalization of Quasar components only. If you need to internationalize your own components, read [App Internationalization](app-internationalization.md) documentation page.

As mentioned above, some Quasar components have their own labels. When it comes to internationalization, one option is to configure labels through the label properties on each instance of Quasar components (like QTable). This is how you can customize the text to match the selected language. This however, takes time and adds unnecessary complexity to your website/app. **Instead**, you can use the Quasar Language Packs which have a number of standard label definitions translated for you, like "Cancel", "Clear", "Select", "Update", etc. No need to translate these again! And it comes out of the box.

>   **If your desired language is not on that list**, then feel free to submit a PR to add it. It takes from 5 to 10 minutes at most. We kindly welcome any language!

## Configuring the default Language Pack

Unless configured otherwise (see below), Quasar uses the `en-US` Language Pack by default.

> **Legacy language-pack names**
>
> Use `ckb`, `my`, and `sr-Cyrl` for Central Kurdish, Burmese, and Serbian Cyrillic respectively. The old `kur-CKB`, `mm`, and `sr-CYR` import paths remain available in Quasar v2 as deprecated aliases, but each pack now reports its standards-compliant language tag through `isoName`.

### Hardcoded

If the default Quasar Language Pack is not dynamically determined (does not depend on cookies for example), then you can:

Example "Quasar CLI":

### Dynamical (non-SSR/SSG)

Quasar CLI: If your desired Quasar Language Pack must be dynamically selected (example: depends on a cookie), then you need to create a boot file: `quasar new boot quasar-lang-pack [--format ts]`. This will create `/src/boot/quasar-lang-pack.js` file. Edit it to:

#### Matching a locale to a Language Pack *(v2.29+)*

Language Packs are named after [BCP 47](https://www.rfc-editor.org/info/bcp47) language tags. A pack carries a region subtag only when Quasar ships more than one translation of that language (`de`, `de-CH`, `de-DE`; `pt`, `pt-BR`; `zh-CN`, `zh-TW`). Every other language has a single, region-neutral pack (`es`, `fr`, `it`, ...) which serves all of its regions.

So a locale like `es-MX` or `fr-CA` has no pack of its own. Instead of maintaining a map from your app's locales to pack names, hand the locale and the packs you ship to `Lang.getClosestIsoName()`. It returns the closest entry (`es-MX` gives `es`, `sr-Cyrl-RS` gives `sr-Cyrl`, `zh-Hant` gives `zh-TW`, plain `pt` gives `pt-BR`) or `undefined` when none shares the language:

### Dynamical (SSR/SSG)

When dealing with SSR/SSG, we can't use singleton objects because that would pollute sessions. As a result, as opposed to the dynamical example above (read it first!), you must also specify the `ssrContext` from your boot file. Note that `Lang.getLocale()` returns `undefined` on the server, so derive the locale from the request (its `Accept-Language` header or a cookie) before handing it to `Lang.getClosestIsoName()`:

### Changing a Specific Label at Runtime

If you want to change a specific label to another, you can. Here is an example:

If you want to do this outside of a .vue file (and you are NOT on SSR/SSG mode) then you can

## Using Quasar Language Pack in App Space

Although the Quasar Language Packs **are designed only for Quasar components internal usage**, you can still use their labels for your own website/app components too.

A pack may also define a root-level `formatNumber` function (v2.31+) that renders an ASCII digit string in the language's own numerals (the `fa` and `fa-IR` packs render Persian digits). QDate, QTime and QPagination display their numbers through it, and you can use it for your own numbers too:

## Detecting Locale

There's also a method to determine user locale which is supplied by Quasar out of the box:

  $q.lang.getLocale() // returns a string

The browser locale is rarely the name of a Language Pack (a user in Mexico reports `es-MX`, but the pack is `es`). To pick the closest pack your app ships, see [Matching a locale to a Language Pack](#matching-a-locale-to-a-language-pack) above.
